11th July '04 Goole Senior
Open Championships -Venue : Goole Leisure
Centre, North Street, Goole. Luke Bradley (1st
Dan) and Joe
Dowling (1st Kyu) attended this Yorkshire and
Humberside event with different reasons for competing.
Joe newly returned to the sport after a long 'rest', needed
contest experience. Unfortunatly scoring no wins, but
valuable experience I am sure was gained.17 yr old Luke being
a relatively new addition to the clubs black belt fraternity,
proved his footing at this level and came away with bronze
medal in his weight category and his first accumulation
of contest points towards his 2nd Dan.Well done fellas

29th
June - 4th July '04World Masters Judo Championships 2004
- Venue : Vienna, AustriaClub Members Andy Hunt and Roger
Brown and Travelling Club Senior Coach Chris
Taylor attended this event with more than a sightseeing
trip in mind. Andy already a past medallist in 2003, fought
well against 2 huge 130Kg + players. However no medal this
year. Roger had a painful song to sing. with a relatively
large pool of 24 players
from around the globe. Although a pleasing
introduction into the international family of judo players.
The Power of the Russian contingency proved too much. Roger
reckons he was hit with the "Hammer" and "Cut
down with the scycle" !Rogers painless involvement came
on the second and subsequent days when he refereed at the
event. His involvement at refereeing in the finals was an
education. Working alongside International Judo Federation
officials from far and wide.Well done to both of you ! It
was agreed by all that another year was needed to prepare
for
Toronto, Canada.
The
gauntlet has been laid down to fellow club members at
Cherry Willingham
to "Walk the Walk"
