Tell me more...
Cherry Willingham Judo Club endeavours to provide a suitable
Judo syllabus to our club members,
to ensure a structured progress. As a British Judo Association
(B.J.A.) affiliated club we adhere to
the syllabus laid down by them. This is
however predominantly only suitable for 8 year olds and above.
We have a strong group of 5 year to 8 year olds that require
a structured program suitable to their
age, size and individuality. Therefore we have taken a great
deal of time and effort to formulate our own
syllabus that reflects their needs, within the structure
of the BJA Syllabus. Our young members respond best to praise
and reward. Therefore to show progress through this
learning process, we have devised a similar system to our
8 year to 15 year old age band. The
structure is based on the under 8 year olds wearing a PURPLE judo
belt to denote their Minor Junior status. Then their progress
is shown with the affixing
of tabs to the belt end in the same way
the 8 year olds + do, but in ascending grade colour order.
(i.e.White/Yellow/Orange/Green/Blue/
Brown).
The progress structure will therefore be like this :
PURPLE BELT
1 White Tab
2 White Tabs
3 White Tabs |
1 Orange Tab
2 Orange Tabs
3 Orange Tabs |
1
Blue Tab
2 Blue Tabs
3 Blue Tabs |
1 Yellow Tab
2 Yellow Tabs
3 Yellow Tabs |
1 Green Tab
2 Green Tabs
3 Green Tabs |
1 Brown Tab
2 Brown Tabs
3 Brown Tabs |
"KO-MON" Syllabus
We shall call
our syllabus system “KO-MON” (‘Ko’ meaning ‘Minor’, & ‘Mon’ meaning ‘Gate’).
This structure is obviously geared up to club member level
only, but does give
everyone a suitable idea of how each judoka is progressing.
Most important of all though, it
provides the little ones with a sense of purpose and achievement.
Upon completion of their first test, the under 8 year old
judoka will be presented with their purple
judo belt and 1 white tab. Thereafter progress is made 1
tab at a time. Promotion to the next level being restricted
to a minimum time limit of at least 1 month at their current
level.
