In the beginning
The Cherry
Willingham Judo Club Founder member is Chris Taylor. He
established
a Community Judo Club in his home village of
Cherry Willingham, Near Lincoln in 1987. He was also a founder
member of the Yarborough Judo Club (Lincoln) which eventually
disbanded to enable Cherry Willingham Judo Club to expand
and flourish. The club was an instant success with a nucleus
of members numbering approximately 35. The club was essentially
a ‘one man band’ at that time with Chris being
the only Senior Club Member. He was the Clubs Qualified BJA
Club Coach, First Aider, BJA Referee, Mat layer, Bus Driver,
& ‘Chief Cook & Bottle washer’.
Club Growth
"Mighty oaks from little acorns grow" – so
they say. We are getting there slowly. We are still a community
based club, but with a string of successes along the way.
We have
developed our ‘Tiny-Tots’ Judo Class,
which we call ‘KOMONS’. They have a progressive
syllabus to learn & be tested on. But with a flavouring
of fun and games to suit these 5yr to 7yr olds.

Who's Who's
We have produced home grown talent from the Junior section – notably
Luke Bradley and Tom Wynne, who have progressed the ranks
to 2nd Dan black belt. Charlotte Snape to 1st Dan.
Patrick 'Paddy' Dowling and Joe Dowling to
2nd Dan black belt. Roger Brown, Craig Antink,
Steven Bentham all achieving their 1st Dan black belts at
the club, & Chris
Taylor his 4th Dan Black belt.

as Grimsby, and the far outlying areas of the county too.
